This time we choose the topic Mirror and also wrote it in ‘Mirror’-style (ABCCBA).
Sometimes you have to challenge each other 😉
~~~
Mirror
When you look at your reflection
Eyes sliding down the contour of your body
Absorbing the little imperfections, the flaws
Of which, you know, aging is primarily the cause
So, there is no need to feel inferior or shoddy
It still can be hard to accept another’s affection.
When you see your reflection,
Connecting the dots from every scar,
Tempting you to give up,
To drink from a different cup
Or simply to see yourself as you are;
A beautiful soul welcoming its imperfection.
Maybe you see a different version of you
Being young and feeling undignified
Bullied throughout life, due to your weight
Or the color of your skin was reason for hate
Inflicted upon you, you withdrawn, even hide
Unable to visualize that important clue
So now we are here to tell you;
Try to see beyond the reflection,
Recognize the truth you do embody,
Since we already see so much more than just a body,
As soon as you understand yourself crated dissection,
You can embrace the mirror and see past the blue.
Top piece of poetry particularly with the unusual rhyming scheme. Very clever, very well done 🙂
Thanks Phil! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Beautiful. I just love this. Thanks for sharing. This piece reallys reaches down into my soul. I used to look in the mirror well I really couldn’t because I didn’t like myself. Now when I look in the mirror I need a strong, beautiful woman and I don’t see all the flaws and mistakes I’ve made. I truly have accepted myself for the first time.
Thank you! And thank you for sharing your experience, people need to hear that and be inspired by beautiful souls like yourself.
You’re welcome. I’m always happy to share. I’ve spent too many years being quiet. I don’t want people to suffer as I used to. Thank you. You are a beautiful soul as well.
It is such an honor to collaborate with you Patty
That feeling is mutual my dear friend, XxX
Looooove this! If we’re not vigilant, we can let self doubt overtake us at any age.
Dear Patty – just recently saw mimosa pudica plant for first time – such a wonderfully adept species ?
Thank you Daal !
Oh, how nice 🙂 I am planning to sow this plant myself this year; the seeds arrived yesterday 🙂
Found my way here through this same post on emotions of life and I loved this collaborative effort. Thought I’d stop by to say hi and invite you to read my blog.
Also, I am a biologist (not a plant biologist but well) and the name of your website caught my attention 🙂
Hi ! Thanks for your compliment (Good to know my dear friend finally published it too 🙂 )
For sure, I will hop over to your blog too 😉
Aha! Now I am curious what you think of my interpretation of this plant (see the page in menu-bar)
This is so true and relatable. I’ve written something similar about still having to love who I am. It’ll be up Friday. This poem is a great reminder.
Thanks Katherin 🙂 I will surely read your post about that! XxX
Very well done!
Thanks dear Hammad, really appreciate your compliment! XxX
Wonderful work, you two. 🙂
That means really a lot, as one of the masters of poetry, I am so happy you like it 🙂 XxX
