The law is the same for everyone

Previously in this series regarding the Universal Human Rights, I did select some of those important rights and added my personal view. Picking it up again and this time I will go through all the 30 basic rights. I would like to encourage you to look up our Human Rights, not to take these for granted or to misuse, but as a reminder we are all human beings, Beautiful Souls and therefore we ALL matter…

Universal Human Rights - Do you know them?

Violence, intolerance, racism, discrimination seems to be part of a never ending story. More and more people need to flee their homes and/or their countries, in the hope to find safety and peace elsewhere in our world. When even world leaders appear to have forgotten our Universal Human Rights, I believe it’s time (again) and very important to remind us all of our Universal Human Rights.

Background

“The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly at its 3rd session on 10 December 1948 at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, France.
The full text is available on the United Nations website.
The Declaration consists of thirty articles affirming an individual’s rights which, although not legally binding in themselves, have been elaborated in subsequent international treaties, economic transfers, regional human rights instruments, national constitutions, and other laws. The International Bill of Human Rights consists of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and its two Optional Protocols. In 1966, the General Assembly adopted the two detailed Covenants, which complete the International Bill of Human Rights.” Source: Wikipedia

At my website you will find a permalink to a list of the 30 Universal Human Rights: regardless where you were born, how you are raised, your circumstances, etc., as a human being you automatically have these basic rights. I added this link to make sure all the Beautiful Souls who visit my site, will be reminded of the rights we have.

Picking it up again and this time I will go through all the 30 basic rights and add my personal view. I would like to encourage you to look up our Human Rights, not to take these for granted or to misuse, but as a reminder we are all Human beings, Beautiful Souls and therefore we all matter.

In addition, I hope to inspire the writers and artists among us to also use this topic for an article, story, poem, photograph, paint or any other piece of art and help me and many Human Rights Organizations to spread this information of huge importance.

Article 7 -

My personal view

“All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law.
All are entitled to equal protection against any discrimination in violation of this Declaration and against any incitement to such discrimination.”

To understand better what this article 7 of the Universal Human Rights entails, I searched for explanations in our virtual world. I found a page, part of the website ‘United Nations Human Rights – Office of the High Commissioner’, and my interpretation is that in general laws are built upon this article. The explanation ends with this paragraph:

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet has noted the considerable progress made in the 70 years since the UDHR was adopted, as a result of people across the world demanding “an end to discrimination, tyranny and exploitation.” However, there is no question that the world still has a long way to go if it wants to accomplish the pledge made by former South African president Nelson Mandela – a victim of the flagrantly racist laws and regulations of the apartheid system – “to liberate all our people from the continuing bondage of poverty, deprivation, suffering, gender and other discrimination.”

There is no publication date attached to the explanation-page, however, and sadly, the world still has a long way to go. Still today, the news around our world is filled with stories about unequal treatment and discrimination. In addition, I often hear people complain about the systems in place; political systems and the justice systems. Talk about corrupt politicians, police and even judges.

I am not naïve and know that corruption does not only happen in movies. While I have always stated that the systems are not corrupt, people use them incorrectly and thus not in the way they were designed for… I noticed a change in my own thought process. Maybe we do need changes of the systems, or at least updates.

However, that just doesn’t sit right with me. Because to me, blaming governments and legal systems is denying the responsibility we all have. As human beings, as one race, as one big community. When we, on an individual level, treat others equal and seek understanding about each other’s differences, stop harming and hurting one and another… would there even be laws necessary?

Only seven articles covered this far and while I still think the Universal Human Rights was a great initiative and I still hope not only the leaders of our world, but also each and every one of us, are or become aware of these rights and act upon them… I find them also to be a sad initiative. That we, the so called civilized beings, need them.
