Today is the 17th anniversary of my wedding day. Music was a part of our day, back then, too. Since it’s high time for another Soul Music post, I have chosen a song my hubby and I both like…
High Hopes
The song itself is originally from Pink Floyd and covered several times. My husband and I both like Pink Floyd and this song, however, recently I found a cover by Nightwish, which is one of my favorite bands. As a human being, the line ‘There’s a hunger still unsatisfied’ reminds me of my wish, my high hopes, for more harmony around our world.
Seventeen years ago, I said ‘yes’ to my husband, with high hopes for a long-time connection. A connection in which we both are able to grow together and individually. This far, those high hopes are fulfilled and I’m pretty certain this will not change. Getting closer to my fifties, I now have high hopes, we both get to stay healthy and celebrate many more anniversaries.
Music is a matter of taste and my hubby and I learned to appreciate each other’s choices. However, being also unique, we don’t appreciate every preference of the other. My husband prefers the version of Pink Floyd. We learned to accept our differences in musical taste (and other matters), to not impose this on to each other. It helps keeping the harmony in our relationship. Still high hopes, our world will learn to accept human being’s difference too ; -)
What high hopes do you have?
High Hopes - Nightwish
Lyrics
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the Division Bell had begun
Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed-of world
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There’s a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we’ve been so many times
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river
Forever and ever

Soul Connection
There are many ways to Boost Your Soul and music is a fantastic one. There are a variety of genres you can listen to, even Soul Music is a genre in itself. To me, music is also a way to Connect with your Soul. A tool to help you go through emotions and acknowledge them. Depending on your mood, there will be always a piece of art that goes along with it. What I love most about music is how it can Connect people.

Happy anniversary to the both of you! Hooorray! Beautiful song, beautiful text. I like the Pink Floyd version better… 😉 Hope you have many, many more years to love and learn from each other <3. I'll connect with you also by mail – there is a lot going on here right now…
Thanks dear Anuscka! Ik was van plan dit weekend je te mailen, maar nu wacht ik eerst jouw mailtje af…helemaal niet nieuwsgierig! haha
Confratulations!! The music I love is pure instrumental, even the voice can be instrumental and used without words. That kind of music I love the most, the instruments are speaking for themselfs.
Thanks. dear Joyce. If the lyrics don’t make sense to me, I skip the song 😉
Happy Anniversary to you and your <3 Patty!
Thanks, dear Katherin ! XxX
Happy anniversary
Thank you!
Happy Anniversary 17 years is something to be proud of in todays society. It goes by so fast, 30 years for my husband and me.
Thank you! And yes, it does indeed goes by fast. Aiming to, at least, reach your amazing ‘record’ 😉
