When I started to deepen my knowledge regarding skilled helping, I had to read many theories and received all kinds of tools. Composing my own philosophy, it became clear to me, besides the non-judgemental listening ear we all need at times, ultimately it comes down to reflection. Kally invited me to write another guest post and this time she would like me to address the topic ‘How to handle grief in the workplace, when your colleague passed away. Honestly, I cringed a bit, an automatic response to the word grief. However, I also immediately knew I would agree to do it. Since grief might not be an easy topic to talk (or write) about, however, it is part of life. Denying life is finite, is not a healthy habit.
Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day. Many around us will focus on how to lift your spirit, get back on your feet with positive affirmations and to make an effort to find the light again. I’m going to ask you to be compassionate and embrace the darkness.
