When we experience loss, society often pressures us to find a silver lining, stay positive, or quickly “get over it”. We treat grief like a problem to be solved or a weakness to hide. In today’s Inspiring Quotes blogpost, I have chosen a quote from Washington Irving. Let’s look at what happens when we stop fighting our own sadness…
True alignment with yourself means honoring your reality exactly as it is right now. If you are hurting, pretending you are fine doesn’t serve your healing; it just compromises your honesty. Grief is not a sign that you are broken; it is proof that you cared.
If you are carrying a heavy heart today, remember that you don’t need to put on a brave face for the outside world. Your tears are not a weakness. They are simply the honest expression of a Soul that dared to connect deeply.
Give yourself permission to feel whatever is there today, guilt-free. Your uniqueness includes your sadness. And when you are ready, move forward knowing that you are not alone. We all hurt sometimes.
Do you have a quote, or perhaps something else, that helps you in times of grief?
Warmly,
Patty

I recently came across this poem of Mary Oliver:
Wild Geese
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting –
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
I think it’s very soothing when you have kind of lost your way. XX
Thank you for adding this beautiful poem, dear Anuk. Highly appreciated. XxX
