When I started to deepen my knowledge regarding skilled helping, I had to read many theories and received all kinds of tools. Composing my own philosophy, it became clear to me, besides the non-judgemental listening ear we all need at times, ultimately it comes down to reflection. I created a short video, the first of a series to help you reflect.
Reflect to Connect: Human Needs
Despite what some skilled helpers would like you to believe, counseling and/or coaching is nothing more than a conversation between two people. A good skilled helper listens to your story and helps you to reflect: what is the issue, what needs to be improved, what can you do yourself. Honestly, most you can control yourself, if you are willing to take responsibility for your own life (again). The right questions will help you find the answers to your questions; yourself.
Ultimately, it comes down to reflection. A great place to start is to reflect upon our Human Needs. Hopefully, the short video I created will be a good start to do so…
