Today, for another ‘Hello Neighbor’ blogpost, I am responding to the WordPress daily prompt asking: “What’s a word or phrase that annoys you?”. Immediately, a rather strange habit we’ve developed came to mind…
Hello Neighbor!
You already read it in the title; the weird habit I am thinking about is that we say “sorry” for saying sorry. I’ve seen and heard it in interviews, in movies, and on podcasts. I experience it in conversations between global neighbors, and even during coaching sessions people are apologizing for saying sorry.
Usually, we seem to turn to this habit the moment we get emotional, when tears well up, or our voices crack and we begin to cry. What kind of world do we live in where we feel the need to make excuses for experiencing pain, reliving hard or sad times, or feel genuinely affected by something in the moment?
Stop saying sorry for saying sorry.
And above all; stop feeling the need to excuse yourself for being a human being.
