Reflection over Audit: Reclaiming Personal Authority

To be a Human Being Human is to accept that we are not static projects to be fixed. In this Philosophy of Connection post, I explore why we better move beyond the clinical ‘audit’ of our lives and instead perform a Connection Scan. It is time to move from surviving to thriving.

We often live according to inherited habits and societal expectations rather than intentional choices. We maintain routines and fulfill roles without pausing to verify if these behaviors align with our actual values.

Last week, I wrote about removing the labels; the professional titles and social categories that often limit us. But once those labels are removed, what remains?

The Philosophy of the Connection Scan

In my Human Being Human philosophy, I propose that we are not static projects to be fixed. Most self-help approaches suggest an Audit; a clinical counting of what is missing or ‘wrong’.

A Connection Scan is different. It is a process of reflection that asks: Is my internal reality actually reflected in my way of life?

Human beings originated 315,000 years ago. While our basic needs have evolved from fire and shelter to include modern necessities like healthcare and technology, our biological root remains the same. We are the only species with the awareness to ‘know that we know.’ This consciousness allows us to use Integrity, our inherited core value, to distinguish between what is true for us and what is simply expected of us.

Reclaiming Authority

Personal responsibility is the act of choosing which connections of your life to keep and which to change. While we cannot control external global factors, we have total authority over our internal state and our personal choices.

To be a Human Being Human is to accept we are not static projects to be fixed.

The Three Pillars of Reflection

As you move through your week, reflect upon your current connections through these lenses:

  • LifeConnections: Does your daily environment support your unique needs, or is it merely organized around your labels and obligations?
  • SoulConnections: Are your relationships based on your honest thoughts and feelings, or are you adapting your behavior to meet the expectations of others?
  • CoreConnections: Do you rely on your integrity to recognize when your current situation or environment no longer aligns with your personal growth?

Stay Connected:

Meaningful connection is the result of regular reflection. It is how we move from surviving to thriving. You can read the full “Human Being Human” philosophy here: Read More

A Question for you: If you were to rely solely on your integrity today, what is one commitment you would realize no longer fits who you are?

  1. Nice questions to ponder upon (the life, soul and core-connections). Answer to your last question: none. The past few years I have learned (myself, using Human Design, Gene Keys and the I Ching as tools) to commit only from integrity, and not from whatever obligation. It’s not always easy, but in the end, it’s very satisfying and bringing peace
