Previously in this series regarding the Universal Human Rights, I did select some of those important rights and added my personal view. This year (2021), I am going through all the 30 basic rights. I would like to encourage you to look up our Human Rights, not to take these for granted or to misuse, but as a reminder we are all human beings, Beautiful Souls and therefore we ALL matter.
Universal Human Rights - Do you know them?
Violence, intolerance, racism, discrimination seems to be part of a never ending story. More and more people need to flee their homes and/or their countries, in the hope to find safety and peace elsewhere in our world. When even world leaders appear to have forgotten our Universal Human Rights, I believe it’s time (again) and very important to remind us all of our Universal Human Rights.

The Declaration consists of thirty articles affirming an individual’s rights which, although not legally binding in themselves, have been elaborated in subsequent international treaties, economic transfers, regional human rights instruments, national constitutions, and other laws. The International Bill of Human Rights consists of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and its two Optional Protocols. I added this link to make sure all the Beautiful Souls who visit my site, will be reminded of the rights we have.

In addition, I hope to inspire the writers and artists among us to also use this topic for an article, story, poem, photograph, paint or any other piece of art and help me and many Human Rights Organizations to spread this information of huge importance.
Article 3 ~ Right to Life, Liberty, Personal Security
“Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.”
My personal view
After research and reading about this third Universal Human Right, it became clear to me that this basic right is quite complex. The Right to Life is often considered the most fundamental right and no other right can exist without it. The right to life is complex, because what about the death penalty, abortion, artificial insemination and euthanasia? The Right to Liberty and Personal Security is about physical liberty and psychical security. (source)
Did I mention this third basic human right is complex? To me it surely is. Taking into account the time period the Universal Human Rights were formalized, a few years after World War II ended, I can surely understand the wish, the need ! for these kind of rights on a global scale. Due to all the different belief systems among us human beings, the debate regarding the justifiability of the death penalty, abortion, artificial insemination and euthanasia will most likely never be settled.
I do hope, however, we can agree that the horrific pain, both physical as psychological, inflicted upon our neighbors at the time is not something we human beings can be proud of and it goes without saying; we have to do everything in our power to prevent those historic events from happening again. It is for a large part the reason the Universal Human Rights were drafted.
So my thoughts regarding the Right to Liberty and Personal Security don’t differ that much compared to those of the committee in 1948. And if you agree, whether you are a leader of a country or a cleaning lady, can someone explain to me this: “Why the F-ing h*ll IS it still happening upon our world?!?!
Which leads me to the Right to Life. Is it the most fundamental right? Or is the first right, the Right to Equality, far more important? Because in my view, the moment we stop believing to be superior to any other human being, we no longer feel the need to be violent, intolerant, to discriminate.
That will be the moment we seek understanding of our differences, honor them, accept them. That will also be the moment we not only take responsibility for our own life, but also understand we have no right to condemn the choices of our neighbors.
As mentioned, the debate regarding topics of taking one’s life will most likely never be settled. Unfortunately, there are human beings among us psychological not healthy enough to take full responsibility for their own life. Or even worse, have an urge to harm another human being without a justifiable reason.
What is justifiable is a matter of perspective. The solution? I can think of many, however, I also don’t know if these will be enough. What I do know: I can do right. Right according to my perspective, is to not intentionally harm my neighbors and to keep connecting to learn to understand the difference between us. Since I wholeheartedly believe: Our differences IS our strength.
