In a world that seems increasingly intent on sorting us into opposing camps, I believe the most radical thing we can do is stay in the room and keep asking questions…
Hello Neighbor Initiative
In the past, I initiated the Skilled Helper Collaboration, where peers shared their professional perspectives. Now, in this weekly Hello Neighbor initiative, I am opening the floor to you again, my global neighbor. Regardless of whether you are a stay-at-home dad, an entrepreneur, a teacher, a chef, a skilled helper, or a gardener; your perspective is a vital piece of the human puzzle. We all carry insights and lived experiences that may be of help to our neighbors.
By seeking to understand our different perspectives on the issues that often divide us, perhaps we can gain new insights. Or, at the very least, we might find a way to dislike one another less.
A Note on Boundaries: While I strive to Connect Globally, there is a valid reason to disConnect: when a view or an action is intended to do harm on purpose. My goal is to foster a shared space for humanity, and that requires a foundation of mutual respect.
This Week’s Question:
When you encounter someone with a completely opposed view on a current social issue, what is the first thing you ask them to help you understand their perspective, rather than change it?
The door is open, and all perspectives are welcome as long as they are shared with a neighborly spirit.
I might not be able to read and respond to every comment ‘live’, but I am looking forward to seeing the insights you bring to the table.
Looking forward to Connect!
