Centuries of music made, it is not easy to create a new piece of art these days. Increasingly, musicians cover songs from fellow artists. Sometimes, I wished they didn’t. Sometimes, the covers are beautifully done.
Connection with your Soul
There are many ways to Boost Your Soul and music is a fantastic one. There are a variety of genres you can listen to, even Soul Music is a genre in itself. To me, music is also a way to Connect with your Soul. A tool to help you go through emotions and acknowledge them. Depending on your mood, there will be always a piece of art that goes along with it. What I love most about music is how it can Connect people.
Thought provoking
The following song has been covered a few times. For some this song is a mood booster, for some the lyrics helped them go through challenging times. The impact of music, melody and lyrics, is personal. Besides beautifully created, I find the words also thought provoking. Every time I listen to it, this piece of art touches me right in my soul.
Which version do you like and how does it touch your Soul? Maybe, you even know about another cover… please do tell 😉
Original
The original version of The Sound of Silence was created by Simon and Garfunkel.
Cover by Disturbed
Cover by Henk Poort
Hello darkness, my old friend
I’ve come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
‘Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence
“Fools” said I, “You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you”
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, “The words of the prophets
And tenement halls”
And whisper’d in the sounds of silence
