Have you ever asked yourself that question? Is it something on a personal level that scares you, or are you worried about our world? In this article, I’m a sharing what worries me today and the solutions, where possible, I intend to implement…
Scary times around our world
Unless you live completely off-grid, or under a rock, you will know that Americans at this moment get to choose which direction their country will head upcoming four years. Living in The Netherlands, for me it is a no-brainer to vote for the preservation of democracy. Here, as also elsewhere in Europe, the shift to ‘right’, and in some countries even ‘extreme right’, is scary. That same shift I also observe in the States and it worries me.
The reason I’ve been keeping a close eye on what’s happening in ‘the land of the free’ is being very aware that the outcome will not only affect the lives of many Americans, but also that of the rest of the world. When, in my opinion, the worse case outcome will become a reality, many humans will lose their freedom of choice. Not only in the USA.
Being raised by someone who has the need to control everything, I know how dangerous that need can be. It will lead to even more division and eventually complete disconnection from the fact that we all have a right to live the life that suits our uniqueness. On a global level, we have to be able to let go of the idea there is only one way to save our planet and to live in harmony.
Even if you believe the current systems in place need to change, choosing for greedy persons, whether they are in pursuit of more control, more power and/or more money, is not going to turn matters around.
Scary times on a professional level
Many organisms already have become extinct and at the moment, there are going to be extinct many more. Our species, human beings, is in trouble too. Both our physical and mental health is declining rapidly. Above mentioned shift leading to more polarization is one reason. As is the hunger for more control, power and money.
Besides being a blogger, I am also a skilled helper for those who are looking to improve their life. Therefore, I also observe what is happening in the health care systems today. Increasingly, access to much needed help is either denied completely, or too expensive. All around our world.
Again, we have to let go of the idea there is only one way to solve issues. There is just not a one-solution-fits-all method that will solve everything. Especially not regarding mental health issues. In addition, greed seemed to have crept into the health care industry too. As a life coach with a holistic approach, these developments keep worrying me.
Turning scary times around
It might be very tempting to withdraw yourself from your environment; virtually or physically. I too sometimes find myself thinking being better off at a deserted island. For some, this could be an option, for most it will not be a satisfying solution, including me. Human beings are a social species, which means we thrive more effectively together with more people to Connect to.
Even those, who seemingly have all control, need people to profit from. As a favorite artist of mine recently shared, I believe this to be true too: “No people, no prophet”.
What feels like a cliche these days is also true; change starts with looking into the mirror. Change is indeed inevitable, the change you seek starts with taking personal responsibility for your own body, mind, soul and life. Thanks to the digital evolution you can find answers to the questions you have. Implementing them is all on you.
As also is not becoming another ‘sheep’. Research, compare, be open minded for ancient wisdom and modern science, trust your gut, set boundaries to keep yourself sane… Meanwhile, don’t let go of your compassion for your fellow human beings, other creatures, our planet. We need each other to turn scary times around.
Personally and professionally, I keep an open mind to people who differ from my beliefs and customs. I draw the line when those, intentionally, harms others or me. At the same time, I also give people second, even sometimes third, chances. Knowing that hurt people, hurt people and that we all grow mentally at a different pace.
Nobody is perfect. The perfect way does not exist.
The only control I am going to strive for is that of my own life. When it’s time to disconnect to keep peace of mind in my life, to stay healthy, I will do so. When rested, re-energized, I will connect again and offer help to those open to meaningful connections.
Via my virtual home, this website, I will keep advocating for change I believe is necessary to enable a thriving world for us all. Globally Connecting, aiming to inspire you to Connect. To life, to Others, to Yourself.

Do agree with you Patty. First take care of yourself and only then you can take care of others. Hope most of ‘life-things’ are going well for you xx
Thank you for visiting again, dear Helena. All good over here. XxX
We are living in interesting times, as the old Chinese curse puts it.
I can’t yet put into words my deep sadness at the tragedy of what has happened in the USA. It will have implications for all of us who live on Planet Earth; it’s certainly a very scary prospect for us all.
I know that good people everywhere will be feeling shocked, appalled, horrified or at least deeply sad at this time, and the only comfort I can offer is to say that you – we – are not alone.
“The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing,” as Edmund Burke said. Well, people, if we sit on our backsides bemoaning this outcome and paralysed by fear for the consequences, evil will triumph.
We are not powerless.
What will you do to stop it?
Yep, I can completely relate and do agree, Bernard. As with any loss…let’s first take time to grieve properly (as long as it takes individually) and then move forward and upward again ; -)
True words my dear Patty. Beautiful blog. The mirror is indeed a very good place to start changing the world for better.
Thank you Anuk! XxX
