In a world where Artificial Intelligence has been evolved in such a way many tasks can be done more efficiently, reports of people losing their jobs, you might wonder if there will still be a place for us humans in the future. In today’s Connection Letter, I share my thoughts on the importance of creativity…
Artificial Intelligence
As far as known, we humans are the only species who know that they know. This consciousness helped us evolve into the beings we are today. We’ve created language, music, art, science, books, materials to use and so much more. We also invented lots of concepts explained via all sorts of theories, philosophies, customs and norms.
The term Artificial Intelligence was chosen in 1956, however a machine based on abstract mathematical reasoning was already invented in the 1940s. Decades of research and development have resulted in the latest known creation… ChatGPT. (source Wikipedia)
Invented and created by humans.
Creativity
There is a lot in life we do not get to choose. Someone else decided to put you on this planet, chose your nutrition, amount of exercise and sleep, which education, religion, norms and values to follow, etc. At some point in your life you will get the chance to make decisions for your own, however, there will always be things you won’t be able to control, influence, choose.
Maybe you’ve decided to disConnect from our virtual world as much as possible, believe Artificial Intelligence is evil and nothing good can come from the way humans seem to evolve forward. I, on the other hand, believe there is a place for everything we human beings created.
Of course, the people who have the power to create laws, influence the global economy, start wars or keep peace are the ones who will also get to choose if AI is going to improve life in general. Maybe, at some point there will be an electronic brain superior to us in various fields.
Human Connection is something that no created artificial machine can ever replace. Neither can it replace humans’ curiosity nor humans’ free will to choose for themselves. We will always have the choice how to respond to ideas, customs, and inventions. Which family members and friends we do keep in our life, to which our vote goes in the next election, which career we do choose, how we spend our money, what values are important, etc.
Embrace positives and limitations; of others, of ourselves, local and global. Accepting that life can be harsh, we cannot control everything and that we are different is, I believe, key to creating a happy future for us all.
Centuries ago we created a tool to write down stories, today we create virtual worlds to pass on knowledge and experiences. Nothing can beat human souls and experiences. As long as we keep creating with this in mind, I believe we still have a beautiful future to evolve forward to.
Keep creating Connections to Life, Others, Yourself is an ongoing process. It is our species’ creativity that has helped us overcome many challenges, brought us this far, and will help us continue to thrive in the future.
Stay Connected ; -)
Surviving, evolving, Connecting together: thoughtful, curious, creative.
Warm regards,
Patty Wolters
