By the end of this week many will be a part of activities regarding Halloween. I’ve always perceived it to be another commercial fest to have you spend money on all kinds of Halloween stuff. Is it though? Today’s choice of Soul Music reminds me of Halloween…
Halloween
When I think of Halloween ‘spooky’ comes to my mind first. That is for sure based upon commercial influences. When recently today’s choice of Soul Music entered my YouTube feed and I listened to it, this association did not diminish. Although I do know Halloween has not begun for commercial reasons, the specific origin was unknown to me.
I am not going to copy paste all the information I found. According to the info on Wikipedia and other sources, Halloween is rooted in religion and in non-religion beliefs. These days it is celebrated worldwide and thus for various reasons. Mostly on October 31, although there are also related events at the beginning of November.
In the Netherlands many are participating in festivities due to the commercial influences, I am sure of that. We do however also have a religion-based day that has similar activities related to Halloween. It is called ‘Sint Maarten’s day’ and children go ‘trick-or-treat’ on November 11.
Diving into this Dutch day some more, I discovered that it seems to have nothing to do with ghosts, or celebrating the harvest, but remembering the discovery of Sint Maarten the island by Christopher Columbus. At the same time, Sint Maarten was also a saint, one of the most honored in Western churches.
Many tales are Connected to Halloween. Personally, I don’t participate in any of the existing events, customs, etc. The association to spooky, scary tales is too strong and I think the song inserted below is a perfect example of it ; -)

Soul Connection
There are many ways to Boost Your Soul and music is a fantastic one. There are a variety of genres you can listen to, even Soul Music is a genre in itself. To me, music is also a way to Connect with your Soul. A tool to help you go through emotions and acknowledge them. Depending on your mood, there will be always a piece of art that goes along with it. What I love most about music is how it can Connect people.

I actually went to my first costume party last weekend. My daughter had a spelling bee, costume party for her birthday. It was a lot of fun, and it wasn’t something I would’ve typically done.
Glad you had a good time! I think I am in a phase where avoiding big gatherings feels better ; -)
